A few years ago I had the chance to build a dining table with my family.
Growing up we always ate dinner around the table. Now with my family spread all over Nevada and California we all get together and sit around the same table. We spend time at the end of our days to have a good meal and enjoy each other’s company.
The table we had prior was very expensive and poorly made. It was great for a while but we needed an upgrade. While searching, my mom stumbled upon a small local business named 48 Planks. 48 Planks specializes in custom handmade furniture- tables, bed frames, accent walls, and barn doors. They even offer a ‘Build Your Own Farmhouse Table‘ class.

How exciting! An opportunity to have the whole family work together and build our new table. We were sold!

48 Planks provided all of the supplies needed- wood, tools, hardware, & stains. The staff lead us through the entire process and let us do the hard work. Each one of us helped pick the planks, sanded, and held pieces while another used the drill.
Initially, we had a hard time agreeing on the style and layout of the planks (we are all stubborn and hardheaded). Once we got the details figured out, we had an amazing time. A real family bonding experience that we wouldn’t have been able to get anywhere else.

We had enough time to build both a table and a matching coffee table! The 48 Planks staff was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a family experience or beautiful custom furniture.

I will always have this amazing memory with my family. From us bickering about the design to working hand in hand to build a piece of furniture that will be in the family forever.
We built our table back in 2017. Since then we have had countless family dinners, holiday celebrations, and plan to have many more in the future. This dining table not only holds the memories from the day we built it but also those we make along the way. The table will be handed down through the generations to make many more memories.

Our family had a great time building and bonding. Has your family built a family treasure? Or do you have something you will be handing down? Let me know below!
